Green IT is the environmentally responsible and the effective use of computers and related resources. Such practices includes implementation of energy-efficient use of central processing units (CPUs), servers, peripherals as well as reduced resource consumption, datacenter management strategy and proper disposal of electronic waste (e-waste)
Fueled by recent trends towards sustainability, the modern use of the terms refers to systematic approaches to using computing technology efficiently. These include issues such as addressing electronic waste, regulatory compliance, telecommuting policies, virtualization of server resources, cost accounting of energy use, datacenter energy crisis and thin client solutions. Green IT can address the burning issue of rising energy cost and increasing environmental damage cost by companies, these issues are of major concern in most companies now. They will continue to drive significant increase in the cost of living and will continue to drive up the cost of doing business.
Reducing energy consumption will become an environmental imperative, as well as an economic necessity.
